Liberal Youth South Asia (LYSA) forms a new strategy

Open Communication and Visibility are the goals of the 3 year young network of youth organisations in South Asia for the year 2008. This was decided by delegates of member organisations from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India in an Annual General Meeting and a strategy workshop, which also elected a new team of leaders.

LYSA (Liberal Youth South Asia) provides its member organisations with a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences and for developing a common perspective on issues that separate this conflict ridden region. A South Asian Youth Summit will be organised this year by LYSA to achieve this goal. The main message of which would be, youth is not only the future, but has a lot to contribute to current politics.

Mr. Deependra Chaulagain, President Youth Initiative (YI) from Nepal, was unanimously elected as the new president. YI through its many seminars and campaigns has become a recognized voice in Nepal. The vice-president and secretary general belong to the two new Indian member organisations, Prabodh and Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR). They introduce liberal concepts to Youth through research and internship programmes. The other two vice-presidents come from the Pakistani Future Youth Group and the Sri Lankan Liberal Youth Guilds. Both organizations conduct seminars and run campaigns to spread awareness about liberal issues from the perspective of young people in their respective countries.

The year 2008 is a crucial for LYSA. It plans to grow by increasing its membership and to establish a permanent secretariat.
